PDF to Word

Drop in a PDF and get a .docx you can edit. We are straight with you about what moves and what does not: the words, the paragraphs and the headings do; the page layout does not.

or drop them here

Text, paragraphs and headings move across. Page layout, columns and pictures do not — that is the honest limit of converting a page description back into a document.

      How to use

      1. Drag your PDF onto the area below, or press «Select file».
      2. Press «Convert to Word» and wait — the whole thing runs on your device.
      3. Download the .docx and open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.

      Good to know

Why no converter gives you the original back

A PDF does not contain paragraphs. It contains instructions for painting marks at coordinates: this glyph here, that one four points to the right. Everything a reader sees as structure — a sentence, a paragraph, a heading — is reconstructed afterwards from the distances between those marks. That is what this tool does, and it is why «pixel-perfect» is a promise no honest converter can make.

      What actually comes across

Running text, paragraph breaks and headings picked out by their font size. What does not: multi-column layouts, tables as tables, images, footnotes anchored to a page, and precise fonts. If your PDF is a scan — a photograph of a page — there is no text inside it at all, and the tool will tell you so rather than hand you an empty document.

      Frequently asked questions

Is my document uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is read and the Word file is built inside your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, which is exactly why you can put a contract through it.

Why does my layout look different?

Because the layout was never stored. A PDF describes where to paint each character on a fixed page; Word describes a flowing document. Converting between them means rebuilding structure from spacing, and columns or floating boxes rarely survive that.

My PDF came out empty. What happened?

It is almost certainly a scan — an image of a page, with no text layer. Recognising letters in a picture is a different job that we do not do, so the tool says so instead of pretending.

How large a PDF can I convert?

Up to 200 pages. Beyond that a phone runs out of memory mid-way, and a silent crash is worse than a clear limit.

      Can I edit the result?

Yes — it is a normal .docx. Word, LibreOffice, Pages and Google Docs all open it and let you change every word.
