EPUB to PDF

A PDF is what you print, what you annotate on a tablet, and what you send to someone whose reader does not open EPUB. This page builds one from your book without the file leaving the device — the archive is unpacked in the browser and the PDF is written there.

What you get: the text of the book with chapters starting on a new page, headings, lists and pictures. What you lose: the book’s own fonts and layout — in EPUB those belong to the reader app, not to the file — along with footnote links, which become plain text.

The book is not uploaded anywhere: the archive is unpacked in your browser and the PDF is written there too. The text stays selectable — it is not a picture of a page.

Good to know

Why the layout cannot be preserved

In EPUB the layout does not belong to the file. The book carries text and suggestions; the reader app decides the font, the size, the margins and where the lines break — which is why the same book looks different on a phone and on an e-reader. So «exactly as in my reader» is not a thing anyone can produce. What comes out here is the text of the book with its structure: chapters from a new page, headings, lists, pictures.

Chapter order is not alphabetical

Chapter files inside an EPUB can be named anything — ch1, part_two, x17. The reading order lives in a separate list called the spine, and going by file names is the surest way to hand someone a shuffled book. That list is what is used here, and appendices marked as non-linear are left out, as the reader app leaves them out.

Frequently asked questions

Is my book uploaded?

No. An EPUB is a zip archive, and it is unpacked in your browser; the PDF is written there as well.

Will it look like in my reader?

No, and no tool can do that honestly: in EPUB the fonts, margins and line breaks are chosen by the reader app, not stored in the file. The text, the structure and the pictures come across; the styling does not.

What about DRM-protected books?

They will not open — the file is encrypted, and unlocking it is not something this page does or should do. Books bought without DRM and your own EPUBs work.

Are the pictures kept?

Yes, including the cover: they are placed in the flow and fitted to the page width.
