Number to Words
For a cheque, a contract, a form that wants the amount spelled out, or a lesson where the words matter more than the digits. Type the number and read it back in letters.
Spaces, commas and dots are all understood: 1 234,56 and 1,234.56 mean the same thing.
Each language counts its own way, and this is written out for all eleven: German puts the units before the tens, French says four-twenties for eighty, Chinese and Japanese group by ten thousands, and Hindi uses lakhs and crores.

Good to know
Why a document asks for words at all
Digits are easy to alter: a one becomes a seven with a single stroke, and a comma moves a decimal point three places. Words resist that. The habit of writing the amount out is centuries older than typed contracts and survives for exactly that reason.
Every language counts differently
This is not a translation of one algorithm — each language needed its own. German says the units before the tens and joins them into one word. French calls eighty «four twenties». Chinese and Japanese group by ten thousands, not thousands, so 10 000 is a single word. Hindi counts in lakhs and crores. Russian needs the feminine form for thousands and three different endings for the noun that follows.
Frequently asked questions
How large a number can it write?
Up to twelve digits. Beyond that the words stop being readable, and nobody writes sums that way.
Does it handle decimals?
Yes. Type 1234,56 or 1234.56 — the last separator is treated as the decimal one, so a number copied from a bank statement is read correctly.
Which languages are supported?
All eleven the site speaks. Switch the page language and the same number is written the way that language counts.
Is my number sent anywhere?
No. It is arithmetic done in your browser — the page works offline.
