Unit Converter

Pick what you are converting, type a number and read the answer — plus the same value in every other unit of that category, because half the time that is the number you actually needed.

Result

The same value in every unit

How to use

  1. Choose the category: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, time or data.
  2. Type the value. A comma works as a decimal point, and spaces between digits are ignored.
  3. Pick the two units, or press the swap button to turn the conversion around.
  4. Read the table below for the same value in every unit of that category.

Good to know

Which gallon, which ounce

Volume and weight are where conversions go wrong. This tool uses US customary units: the US gallon is 3.785 litres, while the imperial one is 4.546 — a difference of a fifth. The same applies to pints and fluid ounces, so a British recipe converted with US measures will come out noticeably off.

Temperature is not a simple multiplication

Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin have different zero points, so they are converted with a formula rather than a factor. That is why −40 is the same number on both the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales, and why a temperature difference converts differently from a temperature.

Kilobyte or kibibyte

Storage is sold in decimal units — a kilobyte is 1000 bytes — while operating systems often count in binary: a kibibyte is 1024. Both are listed separately here, which explains why a “500 GB” drive shows up as roughly 465 GiB in the system.

Frequently asked questions

Are gallons and ounces US or imperial?

US customary. A US gallon is 3.785 litres and a US fluid ounce is 29.57 ml; the imperial versions are about 20% and 4% larger respectively.

How long is a month here?

The average length of a Gregorian month, 30.44 days, and a year is 365.2425 days. That is the right basis for “how many hours in three months”, not for a specific calendar month.

Why does the result show so many digits?

Up to ten significant digits are kept so small units stay meaningful. Trailing zeros are removed, so exact conversions look exact.

Can I type a comma instead of a dot?

Yes. A single comma is read as a decimal separator, several commas as thousands separators, and spaces are ignored.

Is the conversion done on a server?

No. All the arithmetic happens in your browser, so the tool works offline and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How accurate are the factors?

They are the exact legal definitions: an inch is exactly 25.4 mm, a pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg. The only rounding is in the display.
