Voice Recorder

A lecture, an interview, a thought you would rather say than type. Press record, watch the level move, stop, and download the file — nothing is uploaded on the way.

The sound never leaves this device: it is not uploaded, and there is no account here to store it in. The flip side is that the recording lives in the tab’s memory — close the tab before saving and it is gone for good.

    How to use

    1. Press start and allow the browser to use your microphone.
    2. Watch the level bar move while you speak — a flat bar means the mic is not being heard.
    3. Press stop, listen to the result, and download the file.

    Good to know

The sound stays on your device

The browser records into the tab's memory, not onto a server: nothing is uploaded and there is no account here for a recording to sit in. That is also the limit — until you press download, the file exists only in this tab. Close it and the recording is gone for good, so save first and tidy up after.

A silent microphone looks exactly like a working one

Permission granted, the tab shows the recording dot, the timer counts — and the file turns out empty because the mic was muted in the system, taken by a video call, or set to an input that is not connected. You find out an hour later. That is why the level bar is on the page and why a recording that stays flat for the first few seconds says so out loud instead of politely counting to sixty.

    Format and size

Chrome, Firefox and Edge record Opus in a WebM container: speech costs about 32 kbit/s, so an hour is roughly 14 MB. Safari records MP4/AAC instead — twice the size for the same voice. The page picks whichever your browser actually supports and gives the file the matching extension, so it opens where you send it.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. It is captured and stored inside this browser tab; the file only leaves your device when you send it somewhere yourself.

The browser is not asking for microphone permission.

Two usual reasons: the page is open over plain http, where microphone access is blocked by the browser itself, or permission was denied earlier and is remembered. Check the padlock icon in the address bar and allow the microphone there.

    How long can I record?

Up to two hours in one go, and the page warns you at an hour and a half. The limit is memory: the whole recording is held in the tab until you save it.

Can I record a call or the sound playing on my computer?

No. This records the microphone only. System audio capture is a separate permission that browsers give to screen sharing, not to a page like this.

Why is the file WebM and not MP3?

Because that is what browsers record natively. Converting to MP3 is a second step — our audio converter does it in the browser too, without uploading the file.
