What «words per minute» really counts

A word is defined as five characters, spaces included. That convention exists because real words differ wildly in length — counting them directly would reward anyone typing «a to be» over someone typing «international». Only correct characters count towards the score, so hammering the keyboard does not inflate it.

Speed follows accuracy, not the other way round

Most people gain more from fixing where their fingers go than from trying to move faster. Watch which characters go red: if it is always the same key, the problem is the finger assigned to it, and slowing down for a week fixes what a month of racing will not.

What is a good result?

Around 40 words per minute is comfortable everyday typing, 60 to 70 is fast, and above 90 is professional. Accuracy below 95 percent costs more time in corrections than the speed gains.

Is the sentence in my language?

Yes. Each language has its own sample text, so you are typing your own alphabet and punctuation, not transliterated English.

Is my typing recorded?

No. Nothing is sent anywhere — the measurement happens entirely in the page and disappears when you close it.

Does it work on a phone?

It runs, but the result says more about the on-screen keyboard than about you. The test is meant for a physical keyboard.
