How to use

Good to know

Two discounts in a row are not their sum

«30% off, then another 20% at the till» is not 50%. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: 100 becomes 70, then 56 — a total of 44%. That gap is exactly where the sign gets its persuasive power.

Checking the claimed discount

If the tag shows the old and the new price, the honest percentage is (old − new) ÷ old. The «Increase or decrease» tab does it for you — a useful check when the shop rounds the number in its own favour.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the price after a discount?

Enter the price and the percentage: the tool multiplies by (100 − discount) ÷ 100 and shows the amount you actually pay.

How do I find the discount from two prices?

Use the «Increase or decrease» tab: old price first, new price second. The answer is the real discount percentage.

How do I stack two discounts?

Apply them one after the other: subtract the first, then take the result and subtract the second.

Are my numbers sent anywhere?
